A Program to Protect and Locate Missing Persons due to Wandering
The primary mission of Project Lifesaver International (PLI) is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer’s, autism, Down syndrome, dementia, or other cognitive conditions and disorders. The task of searching for wandering or lost individuals with these conditions is a growing and serious responsibility. Without effective procedures and equipment, searches can involve multiple agencies, hundreds of officers, countless man-hours and thousands of dollars. More importantly, because time is of the essence, every minute lost increases the risk of a tragic outcome. Working hand in hand with trained public safety agencies, Project Lifesaver will help you save time, money and most importantly, your loved ones. The average recovery time for PLI clients is 30 minutes.
Citizens enrolled in Project Lifesaver wear a small personal transmitter around the wrist or ankle that emits an individualized tracking signal. The $10-15 monthly cost of the transmitter covers the cost of the battery, battery replacement in your home by a technician, and calibration. Hancock County is one of six counties in Kentucky that has PLI tracking capabilities. Anyone in Hancock County or the surrounding area interested in the Project Lifesaver program should contact Rick Montague, Emergency Management Agency Director, at 927-1310.
