The Green River promotes Colon Cancer Awareness by Dressing in Blue!

March 5, 2010, all seven counties of the Green River Region are encouraged to "Dress in Blue" to create awareness of the most preventable cancer, Colon Cancer.  "Save Lives, Promote Colon Cancer Awareness, and Dress in Blue!” is a nationwide push led by the Colon Cancer Alliance.  Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the nation.  Nine out of 10 colon cancers may be prevented or cured if detected early.  Despite the effectiveness of screening methods, Kentucky has one of the worst colon cancer mortality rates in the nation. The disease kills nearly 900 people every year. People 50 and older are encouraged to get screened.

The Kentucky Cancer Program is the state-mandated cancer control program jointly administered by the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky. KCP’s mission is to reduce cancer incidence and mortality by promoting cancer education, research and service programs.

Remember – wear blue on March 5th to show your support of the Kentucky Cancer Program’s efforts to create public awareness!
