Training Opportunities

Have you been dislocated from your job?  Are you not sure that you can afford to attend school?   Do you need to gain the knowledge and skills to obtain a certain job? Does the employer require a specific credential in order to consider you for the position?  If you answered yes, GRADD scholarships may be available.  GRADD's scholarship program helps those who qualify pay for college expenses such as tuition and books.  This includes both long term and short term training opportunities.  Programs are available for eligible youth, adults, dislocated workers, and those who have been laid off due to foreign trade.  We can help you determine what is right for you and your situation.

If you are interested in GRADD's scholarship opportunities, please attend an orientation at the Owensboro Career Center (270-685-0210) or Henderson OET (270-826-0427) to find out more information.  Contact one of these career centers for orientation times and reserve your seat today!

In addition to information regarding training opportunities, the orientation includes information about other services offered at the area career centers.  You will learn how the Workforce Development Department can help you with resume writing, job search assistance, computer skills and other assistance in obtaining and retaining employment.

GRADD offers current youth scholarship recipients the opportunity to get real life experience in the workplace.  Students are placed in a job with an area agency or business tailored to their career interest.  Students are matched based upon their skill level and college major.  Throughout the summer, students will report to work gaining on the job experiences.  Students will complete timesheets and will be paid for their hours worked.

For more information, please contact Marcie Vooris at (270)926-4433 or marcievooris@gradd.com.

ELIGIBLE TRAINING PROVIDER LIST

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998, mandates that the Local Workforce Investment Boards (LWIB), in partnership with the state, develop a statewide list of training providers.  These training institutions would be eligible to receive WIA funds for the purpose of providing training to eligible WIA adults and dislocated workers.

GRADD can only use training providers that have been approved on Kentucky’s Eligible Training Provider list, as mentioned above. To see the list of eligible training programs at area schools, click here.  Priority will be given to applicants who are going into a high demand occupation.  Those occupations include healthcare, energy, construction, advanced manufacturing, and STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) related careers.
