Executive Director Jiten Shah Comments

As we wrap up 2007 and commit it to the dark corners of memory, we cannot help but dwell upon the successes of the year that do not conform to the restraints of cardboard boxes. Such successes possess a magnitude that transcends years, and the communities, leadership, and staff of GRADD work with passion and persistence to establish a foundation for these types of successes. Now we look into the eyes of 2008, which greets us with new challenges and conundrums, but without question, the strength and perseverance of this region will guide us through another promising year.
Though sad, the farewells of 2007 will bring us to new beginnings. GRADD will miss the enthusiasm of former Chairman Reid Haire. The obstacles surmounted, the global friendships built, and the innovation cultivated throughout the region with Judge Haire’s guidance and encouragement are testaments to the tenacity of his vision and his dedication to progress. On behalf of GRADD, I thank Judge Haire and offer my sincerest appreciation of his two years of service.
The inevitability of change, though sometimes difficult to accept, provides the energy of new ideas and perspectives. Already I see a bold, dedicated spirit taking hold of the new GRADD officers, adding excitement to the new year ahead. To the role of Chairman, I welcome Tim Thompson, who has had an enduring history with GRADD. His experience and commitment to service will be tremendous assets as the region moves forward.
Change is filtering throughout the nation, and nowhere is this more evident to us than in Frankfort. GRADD communities and staff look forward to working with the Beshear administration and building solid relations that will allow us to address the critical issues affecting the state and this region in particular. Since the opening of the 2008 General Assembly session, many of these issues are gaining prominence as Kentucky’s legislators contemplate how to best direct the future of the state. To further engage the region’s citizenry in a dialogue with local legislators, the GRADD office will host a Legislative Breakfast on Saturday, March 22, at 9:00 a.m. For those who want to exercise their voices and for those who simply want to learn more about the work of our legislators, this is a unique event, and I encourage everyone to attend.
